Influenza Vaccinations 2009-10

Seasonal Flu Vaccine Update (October 13, 2009)

Taylor Health and Wellness Center is currently out of seasonal flu vaccine, and is trying to find more vaccine. Our university community utilized Taylor Health’s normal shipment of seasonal flu vaccine in just a few days. Last year we had vaccine that went unused. Both nationally and locally, there is an increased demand for the seasonal vaccine. The drug manufactures have already turned to producing the H1N1 flu vaccine. According to local media reports, most all health care facilities, pharmacies, and suppliers are out of seasonal flu vaccine because of the heavy early demands.

If Taylor Health receives any more seasonal flu vaccine, it will inform the university community immediately.

The cost for the seasonal flu vaccine is as follows:

To reduce the risk of getting the flu:

  1. Get the flu vaccine, both seasonal now and H1N1 later.
  2. We recommend frequent and high-quality hand washing .
  3. Cover coughs and sneezes.
  4. Do not attend classes or work if you are having flu-like symptoms, until 24 hours after the fever and cough subsides.
  5. Practice social distancing when possible, especially if another person is demonstrating the symptoms of the flu.

The H1N1 (Swine) Flu Vaccine is scheduled to be available in mid to late October. Taylor Health will notify the campus when the vaccine becomes available.
